Jag har hört talas om en teknik för att effektivt få bort läckage från hihat och cymbaler på virvelspåret med hjälp av kompression och fas. Efter att till slut ha sett en riktigt bra beskrivning på hur det går till med mjukvara blev jag sugen på att testa om det funkar lite bra helt analogt.  (In English at the bottom of the page).

Jag gillar att spela in på band men saknar ibland kontrollen över vissa detaljer som gör att det går att uppnå ett riktigt smackigt virvelljud utan att dränka den i högfrekvent läck. I veckans video går jag igenom exakt hur jag gick till väga för att använda en av våra Distressor-kompressorer som gate på virveln. Det krävdes lite kreativa lösningar för att få det hela att fungera. Men fungerar gör det, och riktigt bra dessutom.

A compressor as a gate?

I’ve heard of a technique to get rid of bleed from hihat and cymbals on my snare track with the help of compression and phase. After finally have seen a really good description on how to do it with software I got curious how to do it all analog.

I like to record on tape but I sometimes miss the control over details that enables a really smacking snare sound without drenching it in high frequency bleed. In this weeks video I go through how I used one of our Distressor compressors as a gate on the snare. It took some creative problem solving to get it to work. But it works, and it works great.
