Veckans video är inte som titeln föreslår en instruktionsvideo för hur du praktiskt spelar in tre förstärkare samtidigt. Videon handlar snarare om varför vi valde att göra så under inspelningen av Siberan’s kommande album. (In English at the bottom of the page).

Att spela in live är något jag gillar och förespråkar även om allt utom trummor läggs om efteråt. Fördelen är inte bara att bandet spelar tillsammans utan också att allt är uppriggat så det är fritt fram att spela in vilket instrument som helst, när som helst under projektet, utan att börja rigga om och krångla med mikrofoner och routing. Under inspelningen med Siberian tog vi det ett steg längre och gick igenom alla olika gitarrljud som skulle användas till de olika delarna och riggade upp alla de olika uppsättningarna samt spelade in alla uppsättningar samtidigt. På så vis kunde bandet spela igenom låtarna i helhet utan att lägga vikt vid att byta ljud på pedaler i exakt rätt tid, samt att det också går att kombinera de olika ljuden i efterhand för att bygga upp och skala ner ljudet i olika delar där det passar.

En bonus I videon är att vi går igen hela uppsättningen med instrument, mikrofonval, placering och processering på vägen in i inspelningen.

Recording three amps at the same time

This weeks video is not as the titel sugests a tutorial in how to record multiple amps at the same time. The video is about why we chose to do so during the recording of Siberan’s upcoming album.

To record live is something I like and advocate even if everything except drums will be replaced. The benefits are not just that the band can play together but also that everything is rigged and ready to be recorded when ever during the project without having to rearrange microphones and routing. During the recording with Siberian we took this one step further and set up all the different guitar sound that were going to be used in different parts and recorded them all at the same time. By doing this it allows for the guitar player to just play through the song without having to make perfect switches of sounds with pedals and such. Plus it lets us combine the sounds in the next stage, and to make different combinations of sounds for different parts.

As a bonus I also walk through all the instrument setups, microphone choices, placements and processing on the way in during the recording.
